Kah Pegs Back Meech in Race for Australian Record

A treble at Gawler on Wednesday has taken Jamie Kah's Australian season tally to 117 wins.

Kah is now two wins behind Linda Meech for the season and whichever jockey ends up on top on 31 July will hold the record for the most wins in a season by a female jockey. The previous record was 111 wins which was jointly held by Meech and South Australian jockey Clare Lindop.

Kah rode three of the first four winners on Wednesday winning aboard Jagarna, Aerofy and Siliconni. She narrowly missed a fourth win in the sixth race running second on Just Peggy for Wayne Francis & Glen Kent.

Meech also collected a winner yesterday steering the Peter Morgan trained Whirlpool to victory at Sandown to take her tally to 119.

Over the next four days, Meech is engaged to ride twelve horses in Victoria while Jamie Kah has a book of seven rides at Morphettville on Saturday.

While Kah now holds the record for the most South Australian winners in a season (116) by a female jockey, she is still well behind the overall record which is held by Simon Price who notched up 138 winners in the 2002-2003 season.
