MEDIA RELEASE: Tracksides trendiest claims Fashion at The Races title as stakes heighten for new season

Leah Habel has taken out this year’s Fashion at The Races Best Dressed title, announced at a glamorous event at Morphettville Racecourse this morning. The event, hosted by The Races SA and beautifully styled by Festival Hire, celebrated Leah’s win and the beginning of a bigger than ever 2018-19 Fashion at the Races season.

Leah dazzled judges with a fun but refined ensemble at the Naracoorte Cup, winning a $5000 shopping extravaganza at fashion boutique BNKR and VIP tickets to either the Adelaide Fashion Festival or Tasting Australia Festival.

The state-wide search for South Australia’s most stylish racegoer encourages contestants to create statement outfits that are as fun as the race day they are attending. The bar was set particularly high this year making it a tough decision for judges to choose from the fashion forward line-up.

The style savvy judging panel for this season’s state final included The Daily Edited Founder Alyce Tran and Steph Robertson from Australian Fashion Labels. The judges convened at this morning’s Fashion at The Races state final and new season launch to select a winner from the top five finalists.

Thoroughbred Racing SA Industry Marketing Manager Michelle Greene, also on the judging panel, said this year’s decision came down to the finishing touches.

“Judges are looking for the perfect balance of racing tradition paired with contemporary edge. Leah’s outfit was the epitome of country racing elegance, catching the eye of the panel,” Ms Greene said.

“The pairing of different patterns, millinery and handcrafted accessories makes this contest so enjoyable for not only those who enter but also the spectators and judges.”

In the second year of judging the Best Dressed Menswear category, Robbie Lippett was named the stand out winner in his dapper attire, receiving a $2,000 M.J Bale shopping experience and a $500 The Daily Edited voucher.

As this season has drawn to a close, the 2018-19 Fashion at The Races season is about to begin, kicking off next weekend with the Mindaire-Halidon Cup on Sunday September 16.

The new season promises to be bigger than ever with a total prize pool of $58,000. The state-wide winner will take home a $5,000 BNKR shopping spree and a $500 Shoe Shed voucher.

“Now is the time to mix and play with colour blocking, extravagant headwear and statement accessories to embrace the essence of spring at the Mindaire-Halidon Cup,” Ms Greene said.

Fashion at The Races continues to grow each year and I strongly encourage everyone to get involved and enter in your local heat. By simply giving it a go and having fun, you’re in with a chance to win some incredible prizes.”

Contestants will also have the chance to literally put their best foot forward as the inaugural Best Footwear category will be introduced, with the winner to receive $500 to spend at Shoe Shed.

The Best Dressed Female and Male winners will qualify for the Fashion at The Races state final next September. With more categories than ever before, this year’s competition could be your time to shine.
