MEDIA RELEASE: Debut Mid-week Race at the new Murray Bridge Racecourse

Following on from the successful first event, with barrier trials on Thursday 11th July at the new Murray Bridge Racecourse at Gifford Hill, the first mid-week race meeting at the new track is now only days away.

The debut raceday at the New Murray Bridge Racecourse is sure to be a highlight for the South Australian Racing Industry. With much hype surrounding the new facilities and track, the Murray Bridge Racing Club is proudly awaiting the first racemeeting o the track, this Wednesday 24 July.

Murray Bridge Racing Club secretary/manager John Buhagiar is looking forward to when the first horses start running on the new track, Mr Buhagiar said the racing surface itself was already in the “outstanding” class.

“We’re very confident in regards to the surface, because more often than not when racecourses are developed the turf seems to go in and the horses will be on it probably before the turf is 100 per cent ready,” he said.

“But we’ve had the luxury of time. We’ve been able to stolinise – or sprig – the turf and that’s the process of planting the turf into the ground, instead of laying it as flat slabs onto the ground.”

The new Gifford Hill racecourse development – which includes a state-of-the-art racetrack and function centre – is a landmark project for both South Australian racing and Murray Bridge.

Wednesday July 24th 2019, marks a key milestone with the first mid-week race meeting at the new venue. The mid-week race day will be followed, soon after, by the Gifford Hill Official Opening Race Day, Saturday August 10, 2019.

Nick Redin, TRSA COO, said that this day has been a long time coming and he is thrilled with the track, highlighting that trainers have conveyed to him after the barrier trials last week, that the new venue was ‘something special’.

Federal Member, for Barker Tony Pasin, reinforced the anticipation “Local projects like this are vital for regional communities. I’m really excited to see the new facility off and racing, and the benefits flowing through to the Murraylands region.”

Limited hospitality packages available at the new Bridges Event Centre for both racedays. Book now to be a part of racing history for the first two race days at the new Murray Bridge Racecourse.
