Li’l Kontra and Sisstar headline a cracker field

The reappearance of Ryan Balfour’s quality filly Li’l Kontra highlights one of the strongest ‘regular’ races seen in sometime on tomorrow’s nine-race Morphettville Parks program.

Li’l Kontra finished fourth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes down the 1200m Flemington straight in November (behind Exceedance, Bivouac and Libertini), and has run just twice since then, including a last-start second – beaten by the barest possible margin – at Morphettville on Adelaide Cup day.

The three-year-old will tomorrow contest race 8 – the Schweppes Handicap over 1000m – but will face some stiff opposition, most notably from the McEvoy stable’s promising filly Sisstar. Like Li’l Kontra, Sisstar performed well during the Flemington Spring Carnival, winning a Group 3 race over 1100m, leading throughout. The three-year-old daughter of Zoustar is also third up tomorrow.

Back-in-form Tequila Time adds further depth to the Morphettville Parks event, coming off an excellent last-start win on the main track over 1100m. Others adding interest – and running at odds – include Phillip Stokes-trained Equal Love (returning from a break), Little Rich Boy and Schilldora.

Early TAB markets have Li’l Kontra favourite at $3.50, just ahead of Sisstar ($4), followed by Tequila Time at $6 and Equal Love at $9.
