Intriguing clash to launch Bordertown program

Two in-form locals will lock horns in what looms as an enticing start to Wednesday’s Bordertown meeting.

James Dodgson’s star Territory Titan will take on Daryl Dodson’s Dr Dee Dee, who is shooting for three wins on the bounce, in the benchmark 72 race over 1550m.

Territory Titan has built up a solid fan base since joining the Dodgson stable in June 2019.

He won three of first five starts before really finding his groove last campaign.

He scored at Bordertown and Naracoorte before scoring successive Morphettville victories. He was back in the winner’s stall in town two starts back, defeating Going Gaga on the Parks track, before a game effort in the $102,250 Alcopop Final last time out.

Fresh from a treble at Gawler on Saturday, Kayla Crowther will make the trip to the South East to partner Territory Titan, having ridden the horse to four of his past five wins.

Dr Dee Dee has been somewhat of a slow burn for Darryl Dodson since winning two of his first three starts back in early 2019.

But his record over the second half of 2020 was excellent.

He’s won five of his past 12 starts including an easy last-start Nhill win on December 27 when he led throughout to win by 5.25 lengths carrying 60.5kg after the claim for Tatum Bull.

It’s an opening race loaded with depth.

Holy McKechnie’s The Great Artiste was runner-up in the Nhill Cup last time out, while Grant Young’s Masterati won back-to-back races at Morphettville and Strathalbyn in November and has been runner-up at both starts at Bordertown.

Dyagilev was runner-up at Warrnambool last time out while Neil Dyer has Montaser, who was beaten just 4.7 lengths behind Here Comes Lenni at Morphettville last time out.
