Clare calls for Cup meeting support

Locals and visitors have been urged to support the Clare Valley Racing Club’s first meeting in almost a year.

The Taminga Hotel Clare Cup meeting will be staged on Monday, January 25, and will follow the cancellation of two of the club’s 2020 events: its Easter race meeting and its Cup meeting, scheduled for November.

“This is our first race meeting since March last year, so it’s been a while,” said Clare Valley Race Club secretary, Tanya Bertelsmeier.

“We would like patrons to consider supporting us through the tough times we have had and come along and enjoy the day with family and friends.

“We were disappointed that we had two of our main race days cancelled, so supporting us to move forward is one of the most important things right now.”

Ms Bertelsmeier said the club was eagerly anticipating the Clare Cup meeting, with many arrangements already in place.

“Our committee members are very keen to get back to normal (and) our patrons are looking forward to coming back to our race days,” she said.

“We have decided to not to have marquees at our rescheduled cup day due to lack of time and volunteers to help.”
All tickets will be general admission and tickets will only be available online, through Moshtix. No tickets will be sold at the gate.

The extended break from racing has ensured the already superb track is in perfect condition for the Cup meeting, matching its surrounds.

“There’ll be a picnic atmosphere and great country racing, set among the beautiful vineyards in the Clare Valley, with amazing local wines on offer,” Ms Bertelsmeier said.

“The track has never looked better. Our groundsman has been working on it since before November last year and has kept up with the work. We have also had recent rains which has helped our track be at its best.”
