Back-to-back Sangster bid for Bella?

TAB Classic (Sangster Stakes) winner Bella Vella will be spelled and aimed at a Group 1 in Melbourne – and possibly another tilt at the Sangster in 2021.

Trainer Will Clarken said yesterday he would resist the temptation to emulate Black Caviar by running in the Group 1 Goodwood on Saturday week.

“Bella Vella has pulled up sensationally from her glorious victory…” he said.

“Although the temptation is high to push on to the G1 Goodwood… I believe this bonny mare has given her all this preparation.

“That was actually the best she’s come through her runs, but she’s definitely going to the paddock.”

Clarken, who landed his first Group 1 winner with Bella Vella, said his stable star would be sent for a four to five-week break before being prepared for the Group 1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley in late September.

“She has proven to be very effective (there),” he said.

“That’s her go – and maybe a tilt at the Sangster next year.”

Clarken said despite enjoying the career high, he quickly returned to more pressing matters.

“I was back at the stables (Monday) morning, watching all the horses work, plus we’ve got Murray Bridge on Wednesday,” he said.

“Myself and my team are humbled by the overwhelming amount of well wishes and congratulations that have been sent our way and I apologise if we haven’t responded.”
