Humma Humma aims for winning farewell

Humma Humma will be trying to farewell racing in style with a second consecutive Group 2 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

The John McArdle-trained mare is among a handful high-quality sprinters who bypassed the Goodwood in preference for the Proud Miss and comes off a solid effort in the TAB Classic (Sangster Stakes) when she finished sixth behind Instant Celebrity.

“She was ridden a bit close in the Sangster,” McArdle said on RSN.

“She was the only one of the four horses on speed who was anywhere near the winner.

“Hopefully the track holds up and she’ll be in the finish.”

Humma Humma is no stranger to Adelaide with two wins and two placings from her nine starts at Morphettville.

She finished second behind Krone in the Cinderella Stakes in her two-year-old season before defeating Behemoth in the 2019 Redelva.

Humma Humma backed that up by finishing fourth behind Valour Road in the Euclase Stakes and finished sixth in the Proud Miss behind Lady Cosmology that year.

She returned in 2020 running down the track in the Sangster before beating Kabini in the Proud Miss and McArdle admitted the mare was a part of the family having performed at a high level throughout her career.

“She’s been such a tough, honest old mare,” McArdle said.

“She’s been part of the family, she’s been here a long time. She’s been very good for us.”

She will join a host of big-name mares up for grabs at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast kicking off on May 25.

“She’ll come home for a day or two and then goes off to the Gold Coast,” McArdle said.

“Hopefully she can do it (win) once more.”
