Gytrash firms as punters unload on Goodwood

Star SA sprinter Gytrash is the one punters have come for in Saturday’s $502,250 Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville.

The Gordon Richards-trained gelding has firmed into a $3.20 favourite with tab.com.au in the build-up after $4 was on offer before the barrier draw.

Behemoth is now a $4 chance, with TAB Classic winner Instant Celebrity solid in the market at $6 on the third line of betting.

Just how the Goodwood will be run is going to be vital, with a genuine tempo promised by Beau Rossa’s trainer Will Clarken, who is the fit horse tackling his big-name rivals resuming,

The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Prophet’s Thumb is marked an outsider at $21 at her farewell racing in the Group 1 Goodwood after a luckless TAB Classic effort.

After sitting just behind the speed the five-year-old came off the fence, giving the winner Instant Celebrity a dream passage, before she beaten 3.3 lengths.

Damien Lane takes the ride on Saturday and Sam Freedman said he feels the mare can figure in the finish despite her wide gate.

“Take nothing away from the winner (Instant Celebrity in the TAB Classic), she was dominant in the end, but she had our back,” Freedman said.

“It’s a hard replay to watch. That was supposed to be her swansong but the owners were happy to have one more roll of the dice.

“I think she strikes the most winnable Group 1 (and) I think she can run first three.”
