Felicity Davies hosts horsemanship masterclass

Racing SA’s Thorough Care team is hosting a free Horsemanship Masterclass with respected horse educator Felicity Davies to assist owners of retired racehorses to prepare their horse for its next career.

Held on Sunday, December 5 at Northern Equestrian Centre in Penfield, people wishing to attend simply need to pre-register here.

The free course is primarily aimed at owners of retired racehorses who are pursuing a career in eventing, show jumping or similar.

It will cover:

  • How to keep your horse still in a line-up
  • How to lead difficult horses
  • Tips to help horses that are worried by foreign noises
  • Tips to help horses that are nervous in the ring

Racing SA Equine Welfare Officer John Cornell said the initiative is designed to support and encourage people who own a retired racehorse, equipping them with new horse handling knowledge and skills.

“There has been a significant increase in events for horses that have come off the track recently, which is wonderful to see, and this course is designed to help owners and their horses with the transition,” Cornell said.

“We’re really excited to be able to offer this free session with Felicity who is a very experienced horsewoman and mindset expert.

“Tickets are limited so we’re encouraging people to register now if they would like to attend.”

Thorough Care SA, the welfare arm of Racing SA, is focused on ensuring whole of life care for our equine athletes – before, during and after their racing career. Thorough Care supports a team of passionate re-trainers across the state who  aid the transition of thoroughbreds following their racing career.
