Racing industry announces COVID vaccination requirement

Racing SA – in conjunction with all 25 metropolitan, provincial and regional clubs across South Australia – has today announced a new vaccination requirement for all patrons and industry participants.

The requirement means anyone aged 16 and over intending to enter any South Australian racing venue for any purpose from 20 December 2021 will need to demonstrate that they have had at least their first vaccination.

Proof of double vaccination will be required prior to entry from 20 January 2022.

The decision follows the introduction by SA Health of the new Test, Trace, Isolate and Quarantine (TTIQ) model and the opening of South Australian borders on 23 November 2021.

Racing SA CEO Nick Redin said the new vaccination requirement was in the best interests of the industry.

“Through careful management and with the understanding and cooperation of industry participants, racing has managed to keep operating practically uninterrupted throughout the pandemic,” he said.

“It’s been a great achievement, but we have to keep responding to the situation as it develops.

“This decision has been made in order to continue to protect the health and wellbeing of everyone attending racing venues and to maintain the business continuity that is so important to thousands of jobs that racing supports across the State.”

SAJC CEO Grant Mayer said members have been informed of the changes coming to Morphettville over the next few weeks.

“This is a whole-of-industry response to a challenge that is being faced by every venue across the State, and it’s the right thing to do,” he said.

“We will work closely with Racing SA to enforce these measures, but we’re confident everyone will adapt very quickly as they’ve done with everything we’ve asked of them over the past 18 months.”

A COVID-19 Digital Certificate will be required to be sighted via a smart phone or via a printed immunisation certificate. where an official SA Health medical exemption is in place, proof of a negative COVID test result for the 72-hour period prior to seeking entry and full exemption details will need to be provided. The requirement will be enforced by Racing SA and clubs at all venues.
