Ever wanted a firsthand look at what it takes to be involved in the horse racing industry with an icon of SA racing?
Well Racing SA is giving the opportunity for those interested in the sport of thoroughbred racing to be a part of a free course run by Racing SA’s Industry Development and Training Officer, former champion jockey Clare Lindop.
The career exploration tour will provide an exclusive look at what it takes to be involved in various aspects of the industry with a focus on what it takes to be a jockey.
It will include a tour of the Racing SA Apprentice Academy and the chance to ride the mechanical horse, a look at the often-unheralded work that goes into preparing horses for race day, and an exclusive look through a working horse racing stable as well as up close look at the Morphettville barriers trials.
“I remember when I first started in racing, I didn’t come from a racing family, so all of the industry terminology was so new to me,’’ Lindop said.
“I didn’t even know what a barrier trial was, and why you need them.
“Showing students through the facilities on offer and sharing my knowledge and passion for thoroughbred racing is something I really enjoy,’’ she said.
The tour will run from 7.30am until approximately 11am on Monday, 24 January and is available to anyone aged 14-25.
Please note that anyone aged 16 and over who would like to attend must be able to show proof of being fully vaccinated.
