Rock The Ring headlines Oakbank nominations

PROMISING sprinter Rock The Ring headlines nominations for Saturday’s $127,250 Hills Railway Stakes (1100m) at Oakbank.

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained gelding will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Despatch who used the Oakbank feature as a steppingstone to Group 1 Goodwood success in 2019.

Rock The Ring will be joined All Banter and Dexelation from an in-form Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable with this year’s sprint carrying a $25,000 bonus if the winner can go on and place in either of SA’s two big sprint features - the Group 1 Sangster or Group 1 Goodwood at Morphettville in May.

The Railway has also attracted some strong Victorian interest including Belsielle form the David and Coral Feek stable, the Richard Cully-trained Pintoff and Bless Her from the Clayton Douglas yard.

Leading trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace will be represented in the $107,250 Onkaparinga Cup (2150m) with Scarlet Tufty who was runner-up in the Stoney Creek Cup two starts back.

Last-start Mount Gambier Cup winner Clever Man is also among nominations which include veteran Flow Meter and the in-form Sanblas, with veteran trainer Peter Jolly also nominating classy galloper Morvada for the $107,250 The Vintage - an Open 1400m race - which also includes the likes of Black Sail, Second Slip and Struck By.

The Queen Of The Hills race has attracted some quality in the form of Group 3 winner Silent Sovereign and former New Zealand mate Belle Plaisir from the McEvoy stable while fellow Ballarat horseman Andrew Noblet has nominated Foxy Frida, who won the Gold Bracelet and Bendigo last time out and Witchfulthinking.

The Shillabeer Plate (1400m) for three-year-olds will see Max Fire step out for the Travis Doudle stable while the powerful Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr have nominated Hongbao.
