TAB Finals Day lead ups revealed, alongside black type changes

Racing SA has released the important lead up races to their spring feature race meeting, TAB Finals Day, to be run at Morphettville on Saturday 25th November, 2023.

With a total of nine finals on the day, six at prizemoney of $105,000, almost $1 million prizemoney is up for grabs in what promises to be a bumper day of spring racing.

For the first time, all series heats of the Country Sprint Final (1200 metres) and Country Mile (1600 metres) will be conducted solely in outlying country areas of South Australia, giving those horses and connections the chance to qualify for the metropolitan finals at Morphettville.

“This series gives horses of all classes and from regional areas an opportunity to race on our biggest stage at Morphettville, at an ideal time of the year in our racing calendar”, said Racing SA CEO Vaughn Lynch.

“We are pleased that TAB is again on board to partner with the thoroughbred racing industry in South Australia, to ensure we have a high class day of racing with excellent prizemoney on offer,” he added.

TAB Senior Sponsorship and Events Manager, Katherine Morgan, was also excited with the prospect of a great day of finals racing in the South Australian capital.

“It’s a really exciting time for racing in South Australia with recent prizemoney increases. At TAB, we’re absolutely committed to playing a role in growing and innovating the industry and TAB Finals Day is a great example of that,” Morgan said.

In other important race date changes bolstering Autumn Carnival lead up races, The $120,000 Listed City of Marion Stakes (1200 metres), will move to the February 24 Morphettville program, along with the Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050 metres), for Two-Years-Old Fillies.

These changes allow for three black type feature sprint races in each of our summer months, with the Listed Christmas Handicap in December, followed by the Listed Durbridge Stakes in January and the City of Marion in February, making up a trio of summer sprints.

The movement of the Cinderella Stakes to February 24th, 2024 will act as a lead up to the Magic Millions Two-Years-Old feature on Saturday 9th March, 2024, at Murray Bridge. This change will complement the program now featuring three black type races on the day, including the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes, the traditional lead up to the Group 2 Adelaide Cup, on Monday March 11.
