Promising mare Aviatress is expected to head to Melbourne on Saturday in search of a change in fortunes following two luckless runs since returning from a spell.
The Richard and Chantelle Jolly-trained four-year-old was narrowly beaten first-up from an awkward draw when third behind Lingani in the Listed Lightning Stakes before she was beaten a half-length behind the in-form galloper on the Parks last time out.
“She just needs a bit of luck,’’ Richard Jolly said.
“She probably should have won both runs this time around, but that’s racing,’’ he said.
Jolly said the appeal of a black type option from a good barrier would be a big motivation for going to Melbourne.
“I haven’t spoken to David Price (Price Bloodstock) just yet but I am 90 per cent sure she’ll go to Melbourne,’’ Jolly said.
“We accepted in Adelaide as I thought there was some chance she wouldn’t get a run there.
“It’s a $200,000 Group 3 race and she’s drawn a nice gate,’’ he said.
Aviatress is marked a $9.50 chance with Craig Williams booked to ride in a Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) loaded with talent.
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained Expressiveness heads the betting as a $4 from barrier four, while Group 2 Tobin Bronze winner from the Adelaide Racing Carnival Skybird resumes for Mitch Freedman and sits on the third line of betting as a $9 chance.
Meanwhile Jolly said stablemate See You In Heaven was on track for her Melbourne return despite being beaten into fourth place as a $2.40 favourite in last weekend’s Listed Leon Macdonald Stakes at Morphettville.
“She probably just raced a little bit flat the other day,’’ Jolly said.
“It could be a second-up thing, and maybe the first-up win a soft track took a little bit out of her.
“She’s got three weeks before heading to Melbourne,’’ he said.
