Progressive four-year-old Sir Sway kicks off his spring campaign geared towards the Wylie Handicap at Morphettville on Saturday.
The Sue and Jason Jaensch-trained galloper went from winning a Naracoorte maiden in December to claiming the Listed Redelva Stakes at Morphettville less than four months later, going to the paddock after he was beaten 4.3 lengths behind Skybird in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes on Sangster and Oaks Day.
That form looking even better on paper with Skybird going to be beaten 2.8 lengths behind Benedetta in the Group 1 Goodwood.
“We didn’t really know what we had, so it was a surprise he did what he did,’’ co-trainer Jason Jaensch said.
The Listed Wylie Handicap at Morphettville in two weeks was the logical next step before they may be forced to cast their eyes towards Melbourne.
“It’s a fortnight to the Wylie,’’ Jaensch said.
“I haven’t really thought too far past there.
“There will be limited option for him in SA so if he runs on Saturday well we’ll be looking at something over the border,’’ he said.
