Since 1881 the Port Augusta Racing Club has provided the region with quality thoroughbred racing on its iconic sand track. The Port Augusta Racing Club hosts 9 race meets and is home to more than 20 trainers. Race days are a great social event for everyone to enjoy, fantastic entertainment for all the family, and racing hospitality at its best.

Port Augusta’s central location sees it as the heart of thoroughbred racing in the Spencer Gulf, and its facilities make it a premier site for racing. With the majestic Flinders Ranges as the backdrop to the Port Augusta racecourse, it has become famous for its breathtaking view.

The Port Augusta Race Club is located only 5 minutes from the CBD and 30 minutes from the popular Flinders Ranges.

The club supports many local community groups and promotes a day at the races to visitors both statewide and interstate. Full catering, with tote facilities and bookmakers on course, a day at the races has something for all to enjoy.

Thousands flock to the annual City of Port Augusta Cup in July which is always a day of great of racing, fashion, and fun. Port Augusta’s mild winter weather and fantastic location make this a much anticipated social event.

Traveling to Port Augusta from Adelaide, turn right at the first set of traffic lights (on Carlton Parade) and follow until you come to Racecourse Road.

Traveling to Port Augusta heading towards Adelaide, turn left at the third set of traffic lights (on Carlton Parade) and follow until you come to Racecourse Road.

The Port Augusta Racecourse has ample parking and spectacular views of the Flinders Ranges from the Historic Grandstand.

parc historyThe Port Augusta Racing Club has a long and proud history as being the major venue for thoroughbred racing in the north of South Australia, since its humble beginnings in 1881. As the only Sand Based TAB Track in South Australia, Port Augusta thoroughbred racing offers patrons a unique and exciting race day experience.

Port Augusta’s central location sees it as the heart of thoroughbred racing in the Spencer Gulf, and its facilities make it a premier site for racing. With the majestic Flinders Ranges as the backdrop to the Port Augusta racecourse, the track has become famous for its breathtaking view.

In 2024 the Port Augusta Racing Club will offer more picture-perfect racing to the Flinders Ranges as the club continues to look forward to a strong future ahead.

To maintain and grow the industry in the Spencer Gulf region, the Port Augusta Racing Club has endorsed a Masterplan along with the Clubs Strategic Plan projecting future direction and objectives working closely with the Port Augusta City Council and Racing SA.

The committee is dedicated to improving the racecourse’s facilities and undertaking measures to ensure successful and safe race meets.

Work for the Dole projects has rejuvenated the area's trackside providing great viewing platforms adjacent to the Pastoral Hotel Public Bar and Pastoral Hotel Members Lounge. The Dick Langsford Betting Ring is the home of the TAB and Bookmakers; while the Historic Grandstand provides the best seat for all the action when racing hits the 2100m track.

The renowned City of Port Augusta Cup is the major community event on Port Augusta’s social calendar, attracting thousands of racegoers from far and wide. The City of Port Augusta Cup is a fabulous day of racing, fashion, and great entertainment.

Racing in Port Augusta is enjoying a resurgence in popularity attracting larger crowds to race days, whilst also hosting a greater number of members in the Pastoral Hotel Members Lounge.
Racing encapsulates entertainment but is strongly focused on social and sporting values. This positive race culture enhances race day events, providing patrons with a great day out at the Races.
