Amelia's Jewel considering $1 million Goodwood challenge

The $1m Group 1 Goodwood remains on the radar of star Western Australian mare Amelia’s Jewel.

Trainer Simon Miller said the recent boost in Group 1 prizemoney across the Adelaide Racing Carnival coupled with the timing of the Goodwood – three weeks after the Quokka in Perth – could see Miller back in Adelaide.

Miller and owner Peter Walsh have their sights on the Group races during the Queensland Winter Carnival, but the timing of the Adelaide feature could work in the favour of South Australian racing fans.

“As soon as the prize money went up Pete (Walsh, owner) said straight that Adelaide was back on the radar,” Miller said.

Miller is no stranger to the Adelaide Carnival.

Lady Cosmology finished sixth behind Spright in 2019 Sangster Stakes while stablemate Valour Road won the Group 2 Euclase (now Tobin Bronze) on the same day before backing up a week later in the Goodwood running sixth behind Despatch.

Amelia's Jewel resumes at Ascot on Saturday in the Listed Roma Cup (1200m) enroute to the $4m Quokka (1200m) on April 20.

“She’s all set to pull out a blinder,’’ Miller said earlier in the week.

“She’s going good, I think she’s going better than what she was 12 months ago,’’ he said.
