Weekend Wrap: Moody & Coleman claim Listed Dequetteville Stakes, Toeroek claims a riding treble & SA Trainer Kym Healy wins in the Territory

Peter Moody and co-trainer Katherine Coleman have already put their stamp on the 2024 Adelaide Racing Carnival which hits full swing this weekend at Morphettville.

The leading Victorian stable produced Lincolnshire for a brilliant debut victory in the $120,000 Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1000m) on the Parks at Morphettville last weekend to follow up their Listed Clare Lindop Stakes success with Quickster, who backs up in this weekend’s Auraria Stakes at Morphettville.

Like Quickster, sporting the Rosemont Stud colours, Lincolnshire overcome an awkward start to drive underneath horses and lead throughout to hold off a fast-finishing Karavas with Carleen Hefal in the saddle.

“I’ve done a few gallops on her and what she’s done is very professional,’’ Hefal said.

“She was very relaxed going around to the gates, she did step a little slow but she mustered her speed very quickly.

“It’s nice to ride a winner for these colours and Moody,’’ she said.

Exciting local three-year-old A Samurai Mind is on a South Australian Derby path following his return to winning form with Jake Toeroek in the saddle.

Coming off a solid effort when fourth in the Morphettville Guineas, A Samurai Mind showed he’d taken good improvement from his latest run, overcoming the tight turning Parks circuit.

“It worked out perfectly,’’ Toeroek said.

“He settled lovely for me, the one thing they stressed was make sure he has room, I thought he was pretty good to the line.

“I didn’t want to ask too much on the bend, he was good when I did put the pressure on,’’ he said.

A Samurai Mind was the first leg of a winning treble for Toeroek with Losesomewinmore proving too smart for rivals before stablemate Jazz Affair was too smart later in the day for the Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable.

Todd Pannell had a riding double with Bond Street Beau leading throughout for the Clarken/O’Shea stable before Delightful Shecky continued his impressive campaign for dual licenced horseman Dylan Caboche making it two wins from two starts this time around.

It was a day for favourites at Port Lincoln on Sunday with long odds-on chances winning the first three races, before John Dunn and Krystal Bishop finished the Port Lincoln season in style with Harleen winning the last race of the day with Alana Livesey in the saddle.

It was a huge day for the talented apprentice who won the last three races on the day after winning the opener aboard Heidi Heid Ho who jumped a $1.05 favourite for the Travis Doudle stable.

In Alice Springs on Saturday Strathalbyn horseman Kym Healy claimed the $100,000 Pioneer Sprint with $51 chance Mathematics, who upstaged his $2.50 favourite and stablemate Noble Magnate in the 1200m feature, the second leg of a double for the nomadic horseman after He’s Maverick was successful.
