Join us on a behind-the-scenes tour of a day at the races, to explore race day operations and racing employment opportunities.
Racing SA's Industry Training and Development Officer, Clare Lindop will host students and teachers to showcase what goes into a race meeting. From the meticulous care of the horses by the strappers and trainers and the focus of the jockeys right through to the track maintenance by our groundskeepers, you will get the opportunity to get up close to see it all.
Tour includes -
- Gain an understanding of the structure of the racing industry and the rules and regulations
- Looking at the “administration/event and hospitality” needed
- Walking out onto the Racecourse turf, speaking to the ground-staff and Sports Turf Manager about the facility & groundskeeping roles
- Observe Racehorse Trainers and stable staff caring for the horses – prior to racing, preparing them through saddling and grooming as well as post race cool down, the wash down and sand roll yards
- Going through the jockeys, scales area and stewards rooms
- Seeing the horses as they parade ring and watching the jockeys mount up to ride
- Watching a race from behind the barriers (the start)
- Observing the Veterinary swabs and horse inspections
- Observing the race caller
- Racing SA Officials undergoing the many layers of preparation and regulation involved in creating a safe and fair environment for everyone, including the horses, welfare rules and regulations to ensure a smooth and safe race day experience.
