Join Racing SA's Industry Development and Training Officer Clare Lindop, as she shares her wealth of knowledge at a special Behind the Scenes Track work tour.

Racing SA’s careers team is now offering the unique experience of going behind-the-scenes at a racecourse, providing insight what happens day-to-day in the thoroughbred racing industry.
Your students may have been to a race meeting or have watched a race on TV before, but how does a horse go from a foal to a racehorse? And who helps them get there?
This activity answers those questions and more through a ‘backstage tour’ of the busy operations of a weekday morning at a racecourse.
Importantly, it also provides a greater understanding of some of the many varied careers associated with racing – from stablehands, to track staff, jockeys, horse riders and educators, horse trainers, vets and race club administrators.

Tours are limited in number and are during 6.30am-8am. Other options can be considered upon request, including regional racecourses.

Morphettville Racecourse Training Centre & Racehorse Trainer Stable visit:

  • The opportunity to walk into the racecourse to observe racehorses exercising on the track under the guidance of jockeys and trackwork riders
  • Watching racehorses exercise in the swimming pool and water walker
  • Observe stable staff caring for the horses – preparing them through saddling and grooming as well as the wash down and sand roll
  • Professional racehorse trainer stable visit to observe the working operations of a stable and the daily routines of stable life and the overall planning and running of a thriving racing stable
  • The opportunity to hear from industry experts with varied careers
