National Pony Racing Series Is Back
Thoroughbred Industry Careers and Pony Club Australia, is back for its second season!
The National Pony Racing Series, a partnership between Thoroughbred Industry Careers and Pony Club Australia, is back for its second season.
South Australia’s heats to qualify for the National finals will take place at the Murray Bridge Racecourse on Sunday December 8 and participants will get the chance to feel the excitement of riding on a racecourse, develop new skills, learn from experienced coaches, and explore potential careers in the racing industry
“We are so excited for season two of the National Pony Racing Series,” said Lindy Maurice from Thoroughbred Industry Careers.
“We had a young Millicent Pony Club member in Stacey Edwards win the National Final on her pony Napoleon last season, and we’re expecting to see many more talented riders from SA follow in her footsteps.
“Not only is the series a lot of fun but it helps to create awareness of the many different career opportunities in the thoroughbred industry and builds relationships between the equestrian and thoroughbred communities.
“Along with games and activities there’s hands-on learning about horse health and we help riders become educated about thoroughbred welfare and life after racing,” she said.
To be eligible to race in the State heats at Murray Bridge, Pony Club members must attend the Jumpstart Weekend at Onkaparinga Pony Club and Oakbank Racing Club on the 23rd and 24th of November. Camping is also available.
Over two action-packed days, participants will build important skills such as balance, control, and riding techniques. The first day focuses on horse health and riding basics, while day two gives riders the chance to put their skills to the test in a fun gymkhana-style event on the racetrack. Selectors will be on hand to decide who goes through to SA’s race day heats.
To be eligible for selection, riders must be between 9 and 15 years old, based on their age as of January 1, 2025. Ponies must also fit into one of two categories: not exceeding 12.2hh, or not exceeding 14hh, but please note everyone is welcome to the Jumpstart Weekends.
This series the season will run across six states – New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, and Queensland – culminating in the Finals to be held on the Gold Coast in June 2025. Register for Jumpstart Weekend below!
