Have you ever thought about a job in racing but don’t know where to start? Come and learn some basics with demonstrations and hands on experience with our retired racehorses as part of a fun and informative workshop with Group 1-winning jockey Clare Lindop.
The Introduction to Horse Handling course includes:
- How to safely approach, catch, control and lead horses
- The basics of performing routine stable duties, cleaning, mucking out, feeding and watering horses, groom horses, daily care and welfare responsibilities
- Get an understanding of the structure of the racing industry and explore race day operations and racing employment opportunities
The course is designed for people who are:
- Interested in animals, learning new skills and industry specific terminology
- Hardworking and enthusiastic
- Able to carry out physical tasks
- Can work in a team environment
- Experience with horses may be helpful but not required
Introduction to Horse Handling sessions are usually a three-hour workshop held in various locations in South Australia. Please contact us via the Expressions Of Interest Form, as these workshops are scheduled for suitable participants only. Class sizes are limited.
For secondary school students there is the opportunity to receive a Statement of Attendance for your VETRO requirements.
