KARAKA KIWI (NZ) (S. Payne) – acting on confirmed advice from trainer, Mr J. Frew, that the gelding had injured itself in its day yard and would be unfit to race, Stewards declared KARAKA KIWI (NZ) a late scratching at 9.45am. Mr Frew was advised that a Veterinary Clearance would be required prior to a future jump-out, trial or race start. HAVADUEL (NZ) (J. Maund) – rider explained that the gelding travelled well in the early stages of the event; however, from inside the 1000m commenced to give ground despite his efforts and weakened from the event. He added that over the concluding 600m HAVADUEL (NZ) was inclined to change legs on a number of occasions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. BOGUES (J. Kah) – in the vicinity of the 500m was held up for a short distance when awkwardly placed between the heels of SALUTE THE STARS and CRIMSON VINE (NZ), which improved quickly to its outside. Laid in under pressure in the straight. SALUTE THE STARS (R. Milnes) – kicked by another runners on arrival at the start. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was deemed suitable to start. MAKE IT A DOUBLE (E. Finnegan) – rider explained that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages of the event; however, when placed under pressure near the 500m failed to respond and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. ALPINE BEAU (S. Clarke) – slow to begin. CRIMSON VINE (NZ) (J. Opperman) – stepped the crossing approaching the 1800m. SESAR (A. Livesey) – jumped away awkwardly. |

Neindorf) – held up from the vicinity of the 500m and at the entrance to the straight, near the 350m, shifted out to obtain clear ground when insufficiently clear of MIDNIGHT MASS (NZ), forcing that rider to take hold and alter course to avoid the gelding’s heels. Rider pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) and was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence midnight Wednesday, 13 March 2024 to conclude midnight Friday, 23 March 2024, a period of four meetings. |

The start of this event was delayed approximately five minutes. AMADE (IRE) (Z. Spain) – the off side stirrup leather snapped en route to the barriers dislodging Z. Spain. AMADE (IRE) galloped riderless for a short distance prior to being recaptured. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was deemed suitable to start. Z. Spain was examined by the First Care Medical personnel and passed fit to fulfil his engagements. A replacement off side stirrup leather was fitted to the saddle at the barriers. Stood flat-footed and was slow to begin. Passing the winning post on the first occasion the near side stirrup leather snapped resulting in the rider being placed at an extreme disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Stewards took possession of the broken stirrup leathers, which appeared to be in good condition, and undertook to bring the issue to the attention of the manufacturer. ALHAMBRA LAD (NZ) (D. Yendall) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. SKELM (M. Poy) – inconvenienced in the vicinity of the 300m when SANDASTAN shifted in. GRAND PIERRO (C. Williams) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off foreleg. YELLOWBRICK ROAD (IRE) (J. McNeil) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery. PORT GUILLAUME (FR) (J. Holder) – near the 2600m was taken out onto LINCOLN KING (NZ), by TULLAGHAN (NZ). LINCOLN KING (NZ) (D. Tourneur) – inconvenienced near the 2600m when taken out across the heels of EIGHT ON THE DOT (NZ) by PORT GUILLAUME (FR), which had been taken out. ONE LAST KISS (L. Currie) – slow into stride. SANDASTAN (S. Fawke) – near the 3000m lost its position when forced to race in restricted room between RAPINOE, which shifted in slightly, and YELLOWBRICK ROAD (IRE), which was taken out slightly by OCEANIC FLASH (NZ). Shifted in near the 300m and contacted SKELM. Rider pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on more than five occasions prior to the 100m and was fined $500. In determining penalty Stewards had regard for the totality of the use of the whip by S. Fawke and noted that he used it on two occasions over the final 100m of the event. OCEANIC FLASH (NZ) (K. McEvoy) – rider reported that in his opinion the gelding may have been feeling the firmer ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. EIGHT ON THE DOT (NZ) (B. Price) – raced wide without cover throughout the event. TULLAGHAN (NZ) (J. Maund) – raced keenly in the early stages of the event and near the 2600m shifted out contacting PORT GUILLAUME (FR). |
