CANFORD (A. Livesey) – near the 700m faltered and was eased from the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had a dislocated off fore fetlock and fractured sesamoid, and was humanely euthanased.

SHAKESPEARE (NZ) (J. Toeroek) – inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight.

CRIMSON VINE (NZ) (J. Opperman) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Rider pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on more than five occasions prior to the 100m and was suspended from midnight Sunday, 14 April 2024 to midnight Wednesday, 17 April 2024, a period of one meeting, and fined the sum of $500. In determining penalty Stewards had regard for the totality of the use of the whip by J. Opperman and noted that he used it on seven occasions over the final 100m of the event.

The start of this event was delayed approximately two minutes to avoid a clash with an interstate event.

ORION THE HUNTER (Z. Spain) – raced keenly in the early stages of the event.

ARTFUL TAWNY (D. Tourneur) – had to be steadied over the concluding stages when ANGELIC APPEAL shifted out slightly.

ANGELIC APPEAL (A. Livesey) – had difficulty obtaining clear ground from near the 300m until inside the 200m, when able to ease across the heels of other runners. Approaching the finish shifted out slightly onto ARTFUL TAWNY.

FANMALIA (T. Voorham) – slow to begin.

COPPERFIELD (NZ) (Z. Spain) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

FIELD THE MOMENT (K.Crowther) – jumped away awkwardly.

RUBINI (D. Tourneur) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.

MOOSE RIVER (H. Yuen) – jumped away awkwardly.

ARTISTIC GENIUS (J. Holder) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Rider explained that a run had presented itself near the 300m to the inside of SUNZOU; however, the gelding was reluctant to improve into that run and was disappointing to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

STORYTELLER (T. Pannell) – near the 300m became awkwardly placed on the heels of KAIDO, which rolled out, for a short distance. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

KAIDO (S. Payne) – raced wide without cover throughout the event.

Following the running of this race A. Livesey withdrew her services for the remainder of the meeting due to personal reasons.

CLIMATE CHANGE (Z. Spain) – contacted on jumping away.

MISS MAHJONG (J. Eaton) – shifted out on jumping away and bumped CLIMATE CHANGE. Inside the 300m improved onto the heels of ARIANNA, had to be steadied and then shifted out and was only able to obtain clear ground near the 150m.

BENDING AWAY (K. Crowther) – inconvenience shortly after the start when its hindquarters were contacted by SO GRAND. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

LINCOLNSHIRE (C. Hefel) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

IN LOVE (T. Pannell) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off hind leg (2/5). Trainer, Mr M. Seyers, was advised that a Veterinary Clearance would be required prior to a future jump-out, trial or race start. Mr Seyers advised that IN LOVE would now be spelled.

SO GRAND (C. Murray) – jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and shortly after shifted back in and contacted BENDING AWAY. Laid out under pressure in the straight.

SCENIC HOST (D. Tourneur) – shifted out at the entrance to the straight taking WARRANDYTE ROAD wider on the track. When questioned regarding his tactics, in particular at the entrance to the straight and his decision to shift to the outside of CHOSEN MISS when in the opinion of Stewards there was a run available to the inside of that mare, rider explained that due to the pace in the early and middle stages of the race he was of the opinion that he needed to get the mare into clear space early to enable it to wind up into the race and make up ground on the leaders. He stated that after making his decision to shift out CHOSEN MISS shifted out further than he had anticipated, resulting in him having to come wider than he had hoped. Stewards noted his explanation and advised him that in their opinion he had been too single-minded on this occasion, and in similar circumstances in future he should consider all options available to him.

ENCIPHERING (T. Voorham) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Stepped the crossing near the 1800m. Rider reported that in her opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

CHOSEN MISS (S. Metcalfe) – laid out under pressure in the straight.

MANHATTEN TIMES (R. Milnes) – jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride. Rider was questioned in relation to her tactics at the entrance to the straight, in particular her decision to alter course and shifted to the outside of other runners near the 300m. She explained that her instructions were that if she had found herself towards the rear of the field then she should attempt to ride for luck; however, after entering the straight she formed the opinion that due to the formation of the field she would be better served getting to the outside of runners and having a clear run to the finish.

WHATSANAMEGEORGE (J. Toeroek) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

ZEBELLA (T. Pannell) – raced wide without cover throughout the event.

OVERSTRIKE (J. Holder) – laid out under pressure over the concluding 200m.

FLIGHT DECK (NZ) (H. Yuen) – slow to begin.

KNIGHTSTOWN (C. Jones) – jumped away awkwardly.

BELLALIQUE (R. Milnes) – rider was questioned in relation to her tactics, in particular from near the 800m when she elected to restrain and take up a position on the fence rather than maintain the back of SET ON YOU, and also in relation to her riding from the 600m to the 400m. She explained that after being taken wider by SET ON YOU near the 1000m to a position three wide without cover she felt it was in her best interest to obtain cover behind him; however, after obtaining that cover the mare did not travel as well as she had hoped and she elected to shift towards the fence to save ground. She added that BELLALIQUE lost no ground on the field from the 600m to the entrance to the straight and then finished off fairly to finish fourth. Stewards noted her explanation; however, were of the opinion that she should not have given up her position behind SET ON YOU near the 800m and should have made a greater effort to make ground on the field between the 600m and 400m. She was further advised to continue to work with the apprentice masters in relation to her tactics in races.

MISS SUBTLY (K. Crowther) – rider reported that the mare shortened in its action over the concluding 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

SET ON YOU (J. Holder) – fractious behind the barriers. Trainer, Mr R. Balfour, was advised that a warning had been placed on the mare in relation to its pre-race behaviour. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event while being restrained. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

AIGUILETTE (M. Collett) – shifted in abruptly shortly after the start. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.
