ARTZINO (NZ) (B. Shinn) – inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight, and near the 100m rider was forced to take hold when tightened between TULLAGHAN (NZ), which shifted in, and HOLMES, which shifted out. As a result became awkwardly placed on the heels of HOMES until the 50m.

WHATSANAMEGEORGE (J. Toeroek) – rider reported that the gelding travelled well in the early stages and came under pressure near the 1000m, failed to respond to his riding and did not feel comfortable in its action. He added WHATSANAMEGEORGE, was agitated pre-race, which was abnormal for the gelding. He stated that the gelding made abnormal respiratory noises on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalilties.

CAPRICORN RIDGE (J. Opperman) – slow to begin.

ZAKOUMA (R. McLeod) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Laid in under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

HOLMES (D. Lane) – near the 100m shifted out into the running line of ARTZINO (NZ), which had been taken in by TULLAGHAN (NZ), resulting in B. Shinn having to take hold. Rider was severely reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) and advised he would be required to straighten his mounts when they commenced to shift ground in future.

BACK ME UP BENNY (S. Metcalfe) – shortly after the start was restrained from its wide barrier to obtain a position at the rear of the field. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

PUNCHIN (M. Collett) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.

TULLAGHAN (NZ) (J. Maund) – laid in under pressure in the straight, and near the 100m shifted in onto ARTZINO (NZ), taking the gelding in onto the heels of HOLMES, which shifted out. Rider was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.

MY RUBY (R. Milnes) – rider reported that her mount slipped behind on jumping away. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

FOXY FEMME (D. Tourneur) – raced keenly in the early stages whilst being restrained.

OUR SHINING STAR (J. Toeroek) – slow to begin.

AZTEC DANCER (H. Yuen) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Laid out under pressure in the straight.

PARACHUTER (A. Livesey) – jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off hind leg (1/5). Co-trainers, Mr J. Dunn and Miss K. Bishop, were advised that a Veterinary Clearance would be required prior to a future jump-out, trial or race start.

RUNAWAY BELLE (L. Neindorf) – lost its near hind plate during the event.

GEMINGA (T. Pannell) – when questioned in relation to the mare’s improved performance trainer, Mr G. Boyce, explained that the mare had returned well from its spell, trialled well at Balaklava on Thursday, 18 April 2024, and also benefitted from the addition of the tongue-tie for the first time.

MISS SUNSHINE (D. Lane) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

THE MAGISTRATE (M. Collett) – raced fiercely in the early and middle stages, and wide without cover throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

SUNZOU (R. Milnes) – laid in under pressure in the straight.

LARKHAM (A. Livesey) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer, Mr R. Balfour, was advised that as this was the gelding’s first bi-lateral bleed LARKHAM would now be suspended from racing for a period of three months in accordance with AR79(4) and would be required to gallop 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward prior to accepting for a future trial or race.

BULLS ON PARADE (C. Murray) – laid out under pressure in the straight.

HOOKED ON WEALTH (J. Potter) – inside the 200m improved onto the heels of QEYAADY and was obliged to alter course to its inside to obtain clear ground.

JUST LIKE LISA (M. Collett) – shifted out on jumping away onto MARACOURT.

KOMACHI (IRE) (K. Crowther) – jumped away awkwardly. Inside the 1200m lost its position when tightened onto RUBINI by JAZZ AFFAIR, which initially shifted in slightly and then was taken in further by THE BRILL BUILDING, which shifted in slightly. Near the 500m improved onto the heels of RUBINI and got its head up for a number of strides whilst being restrained. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

ANNIHILATE (T. Voorham) – jumped away awkwardly and shifted in onto MARACOURT. At the entrance to the straight was disappointed when attempting a tight run between the heels of THE BRILL BUILDING and IMPOSING SUSPECT (NZ), which both shifted ground slightly, and as a result was only able to obtain clear ground inside the 300m.

EAST INDIAMAN (T. Pannell) – laid out under pressure in the straight. When questioned in relation to the improved performance of the gelding trainer, Mr D. McLeod, explained that following its last run on Saturday, 6 April 2024, the gelding was examined by the stable veterinarian on Monday, 8 April 2024, who reported soreness across the back and in front. The gelding was treated and also underwent extensive physio treatment prior to today’s event. After considering his explanation Stewards charge Mr McLeod under AR105(2)(a) in that he failed to report to Stewards anything which might have affected the running of a horse in a race. Mr McLeod pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $500.

MARACOURT (J. Eaton) – inconvenienced on jumping away when tightened between ANNIHILATE, which shifted in, and JUST LIKE LISA, which shifted out.

JAZZ AFFAIR (J. Toeroek) – raced keenly in the middle stages. Inside the 1200m shifted in slightly onto KOMACHI (IRE), and then shortly after was taken in further by THE BRILL BUILDING.

THE BRILL BUILDING (L. Neindorf) – raced wide without cover throughout the event. inside the 1200m shifted in slightly onto JAZZ AFFAIR taking that gelding in onto KOMACHI (IRE). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

IMBIBE (C. Murray) – near the 300m shifted out slightly onto RUBINI.

IMPOSING SUSPECT (NZ) (N. Farley) – slow to begin.

RUBINI (B. Price) – slow to begin. Near the 300m had to be momentarily steadied when IMBIBE shifted out slightly.

SIR KINGSFORD (K. Crowther) – laid out under pressure over the concluding 150m.

AMMO AMOR (R. Milnes) – raced wide without cover throughout the event. Approaching the 100m had to be steadied when forced to race in restricted room to the inside of DIXIE WHISTLER, which shifted in and away in slightly from ENCIPHERING

BOLT BY (T. Pannell) – rider explained that it was not his instructions to settle outside the leader, but after being caught wide from a poor barrier he elected to roll forward to obtain a position closer to the rail.

BELLAVARDO (NZ) (T. Voorham) – slow to begin.

FORTIS IN ARMIS (J. Eaton) – hampered shortly after the start when contacted by ENCIPHERING.

BABY ALEX (J. Kah) – rider explained that from the wide barrier she was obliged to settle further back in the field than she had hoped. She added that the mare had raced plain and in her opinion would be better suited settling in a position closer to the speed over a similar distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

ENCIPHERING (M. Collett) – raced keenly in the early stages of the event.

UPGRADE ME (L. Neindorf) – laid in under pressure in the straight.

SIRMAZE (S. Metcalfe) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.

UNDER THE CONE (J. Toeroek) – held up from the vicinity of the 500m until the entrance to the straight.

VOLTAGE POINT (T. Voorham) – raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.

ASTRODEAN (T. Pannell) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

SASSY BOOM (B. Shinn) – raced keenly in the middle stages of the event. Inside the 1300m was taken in onto STYLSIH by POIFECT, which shifted in.

POIFECT (M. Dee) – inside the 1300m shifted in onto SASSY BOOM, which was taken in onto STYLISH, which was forced to be steadied. Rider was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a).

STYLISH (D. Lane) – shifted out on jumping away onto SPIRIT OF CAMELOT (IRE). Inside the 1300m was hampered and forced to be steadied when tightened onto SEEKING STARDOM by SASSY BOOM, which had been taken in. Near the 500m became awkwardly placed on the heels of ASTRODEAN for a number of strides when that colt commenced to give ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

SPIRIT OF CAMELOT (IRE) (J. Kah) – contacted on jumping away. Near the 1300m shifted in onto SEEKING STARDOM, which was forced to be steadied. Rider was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.

ANGELIC APPEAL (C. Murray) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

SEEKING STARDOM (J. Holder) – near the 1300m had to be steadied when SPIRIT OF CAMELOT (IRE) shifted in. Rider pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on more than five occasions prior to the 100m and was fined $400. In determining penalty Stewards had regard for the totality of the use of the whip by J. Holder and noted that he used it on five occasions over the final 100m of the event.

FIRST IMMORTAL (B. Shinn) – from the entrance to the straight laid in towards the heels of CRIMSON VINE (NZ) on a number of occasions before shifting to the inside of that gelding and then continuing to lay in for the remainder of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

CRIMSON VINE (NZ) (J. Opperman) – inside the 600m shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped with MAPUTO.

MAPUTO (D. Tourneur) –near the 600m was inconvenienced when contacted by CRIMSON VINE (NZ). Laid out under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.
