MERCURY FLYER (S. Fawke) – near the 200m shifted in under pressure marginally before being straightened by its rider. RHINESTONE RORY (J. Toeroek) – held up rounding the home turn for a short distance. After passing the 200m raced tight between RIVOLI VIEW, which shifted out slightly and MERCURY FLYER, which shifted in before being straightened by its rider. During this incident, RHINESTONE RORY was accidentally struck in the vicinity of the head by whip of T. Pannell (RIVOLI VIEW). EMPIRESTATEOFMIND (B. Price) – near the 600m rider accidentally dropped his whip. Rider reported that he felt that there was something amiss with the gelding’s action prior to straightening and for this reason he eased EMPIRESTATEOFMIND out of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg (1/5). Trainer, Mr T. Doudle was advised that a Veterinary Clearance would be required prior to a future jump-out, trial or race. FOXY EAGLE (D. Tourneur) – laid in under pressure in the straight. GREY FOLLY (A. Lai) – gave ground quickly over the concluding stages. Rider could offer no explanation for the mare’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg (1/5). Trainer, Mr B. Campbell was advised that a Veterinary Clearance would be required prior to a future jump-out, trial or race. Correct weight was delayed to allow J. Toeroek (RHINESTONE RORY), placed third, to view the vision in the straight. After doing so J. Toeroek lodged an objection against S. Fawke (MERCURY FLYER) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference from the 200m onwards. After considering the evidence, on viewing the official footage and acting on their own observations, Stewards dismissed the objection. |

Near the 300m, when continuing to give ground, shifted out and contacted DJOUNIE. Performed poorly and was eased down over the concluding stages. Rider explained that she felt there something amiss with the gelding’s action and for this reason she did not ride DARK LAGER out fully in the straight. Trainer, Mr J. Searle was advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding in relation to its poor performance today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities. BELFAST CHILD (S. Fawke) – hampered at the top of the straight when bumped by STIRRUP CUP, which shifted out. DJOUNIE (A. Shortly after straightening shifted out to improve and contacted DARK LAGER. STIRRUP CUP (P. Brewster) – at the top of the straight shifted out and contacted BELFAST CHILD. Rider reported that the gelding raced greenly when placed under pressure in the straight. WHISKERS HARBOUR (NZ) (J. Toeroek) – rider reported that it was his intention to ride the gelding in a more forward position, however, WHISKERS HARBOUR (NZ) was restless in its barrier stall prior to the start being effected, began awkwardly and then shortly after the start, he was obliged to ease his mount when tightened for room between AFRICARN LAD and DREAMT OF ME when both runners shifted ground. He added that as a result the gelding settled further back in the field than intended. |
