A pair of talented South Australian mares will be trying to continue their winning ways in the $200,000 Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Cup Day.

The Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable take Aviatress back to Melbourne chasing three wins in succession while Michael Hickmott’s Fancify has been in the top two at both Flemington runs.

Aviatress dropped her back in class to win in Adelaide before her dominant 2.75 length Caulfield win last time out and has drawn perfectly in barrier four.

“She’s been good since her last start,’’ Jolly said.

“A few people are against her again, there’s talk she’d be a query at the 1400m but I’d imagine there a few in a similar position, based on her last start I don’t think that will be an issue,’’ he said.

Michael Hickmott’s Fancify heads back to Melbourne following a smart return to racing on her home deck at Murray Bridge on Cup Day winning over the 1200m.

She’ll be out to atone for a narrow miss on Oaks Day last year when narrowly beaten by Precious Charm over the 1700m with James McDonald in the saddle.

Aviatress is marked a $3.50 favourite with Craig Williams booked to ride while Joe Bowditch will ride Fancify who is a $15 chance in early markets.

Wayne Francis and Glen Kent’s Jack The Lad is another South Australian in action on Cup Day.

He was a strong winner first-up from a spell and comes off a solid effort when he closed late to be beaten 2.6 lengths behind Maracourt in the Murray Bridge Cup last time and steps out in the $150,000 Trophy over 1400m.

In-form South Australian stayer Call Me Vexatious will be the first local in action when he steps out in the $250,000 Australian Heritage Cup (2800m), the race won by The Map last year.

The Nicole Irwin-trained galloper has been in solid form in SA and booked his ticket into the race via a last-start Morphettville victory with Craig Newitt to ride from a wide gate.
