MEDIA RELEASE: Update on Mr Niki O’Shea and Ms Ashton Downing

The South Australian Racing Appeals Tribunal comprising the President, the Honourable Mr TR Anderson QC, today dismissed the appeals lodged by Trainers, Mr Niki O’Shea and Ms Ashton Downing against their convictions in respect of the charges laid against them by Thoroughbred Racing SA (TRSA) Stewards following an inquiry into their conduct on 2 May 2018. The charges included attempting race day administration to two horses trained by them while en route to a race meeting at Strathalbyn on Wednesday 2 May 2018.

Whilst detailed reasons are yet to be published, the President found that there had been no suggestion of procedural unfairness by the Stewards.

The President has heard argument on penalty, which will continue over the next week. It was acknowledged that the stays previously imposed on 25 July 2018 no longer apply and the periods of disqualification in respect of both parties commenced today.
