Update: Eastender Inquiry

TRSA Stewards today concluded the ‘Eastender’ inquiry. After consideration of evidence, Mr Barry Campbell, the trainer of Eastender and his stable Foreperson, Ms Tania Coward were found guilty of the following charges:

Mr. Campbell

Charge 1 – Race day injection of Eastender (with Potassium).

Charge 2 – Race day treatment of Eastender (with Potassium).

Charge 3 – Conduct intended to corrupt the outcome of a race.

Ms. Coward

Charge 1 – Party to race day injection of Eastender (with Potassium).

Charge 2 – Party to conduct intended to corrupt the outcome of a race.

The charges follow an inquiry by Thoroughbred Racing SA (TRSA) Stewards into their conduct on 11 March 2019 which included the racehorse Eastender being injected without Stewards permission on race day at stable premises at Morphettville. Eastender was a late scratching by order of Stewards on the day.

The following penalties were imposed by Stewards in respect of the charges:

Mr. Campbell

Charge 1: A disqualification for a period of 12 months.

Charge 2: A disqualification for a period of 12 months.

Charge 3: A disqualification for a period of 3 years.

All penalties are to be served concurrently and commence at midnight on Friday 21 June 2019.

Ms. Coward

Charge 1: A disqualification for a period of 6 months.

Charge 2: A disqualification for a period of 18 months.

All penalties are to be served concurrently and commence at midnight on Friday 21 June 2019.

Mr. Campbell and Ms. Coward were advised of their rights of appeal.
