Trip primed for Viddora triumph

David Jolly believes the wide gate shouldn’t be an issue for in-form mare Trip chasing her third successive win in the $100,000 Viddora Series Final (1300m) at Morphettvile on Saturday.

Trip has been let roll at her past two starts winning by five lengths at Balaklava on Cup Day before backing that up with another impressive front running performance at Morphettville on the Parks track last time out.

“She’s in good form at the moment,’’ Jolly said.

“There looks to be some of the speed scratched form the race, I think she’ll roll across and be in front and be there for a long way.

“She’s obviously up in class but she enjoys rolling along and we’ll let her do it again on Saturday,’’ he said.

Trip is marked a $3.10 favourite from barrier and will jump from barrier nine after scratchings with Todd Pannell in the saddle.

The four-year-old will be hoping to make amends for a disappointing result in last weekend’s $15m Everest with Behemoth where he found himself in the wrong part of the track.

Jolly said the dual Group 1 winner returned to his Goolwa base on Thursday and was likely to be set for the autumn with a potential target of the rich All-Star Mile.

“He’s back here now and will have a little let down. We’ll have the vet here this afternoon to go over him,’’ Jolly said.

“The C F Orr over 1400m looks a nice race for him in the autumn and you obviously have the All-Star Mile just after that,’’ he said.

An All-Star Mile bid could rule out the horse running in a third successive Group 1 Goodwood at Morphettville, but Jolly said they would look deep in the program over the next week.

“The Goodwood is obviously the other option with him,’’ Jolly added.

“The only downside with that is there is really only the one target race for him and he’s probably best suited over 1400m to a mile now.

“We will try and work that out over the next few days and work out his next campaign,’’ he said.
