Balfour's treble, KI Cup triumph, big Sunday for Dunn/Bishop

Ryan Balfour had a day out on his home deck at Morphettville on Saturday with a training treble.

Balfour’s three winners continued a brilliant 2021-22 season, his 34 wins surpassing last year’s effort, placing him third on the South Australian Trainer’s Premiership.

Top jockey Todd Pannell produced a brilliant ride on Busker’s Ballad to kick off Balfour’s big day before Larkham proved too strong for boom filly Philonize.

The day completed when Blah Blah Blah claimed the last race of the day with Justin Potter in the saddle.

Campbell Rawiller and Barend Vorster shared riding honours at Morphettville.

Rawiller was successful aboard Larkham and the Richard and Chantelle Jolly-trained All Banter, while Vorster’s two winners came with the Chris Bieg-trained Starsongari and Night Passage, who made it three wins in succession for the Tony and Calvin McEvoy stable.

MEANWHILE Splash Some Cash gave David Page Saturday’s Kangaroo Island Cup at Kingscote.

Well backed to run a $1.90 favourite Splash Some Cash made it successive KI features, the win only marred when jockey Justin Huxtable fell after the line following a big salute to the crowd.

Huxtable was suspended for three weeks by Racing SA Stewards.

AND at Port Lincoln on Sunday John Dunn and Krystal Bishop trained five of the eight winners.

The day was dominated by apprentices, Ben Price riding four winners, Angus Chung a double and Sophie Logan also back in the winners’ stall after metropolitan success on Saturday at Morphettville aboard Yeelanna for the David Jolly stable.
