"A lot to weigh up" for premiership leader Vorster

Top jockey Barend Vorster won’t rush into a decision regarding his riding future.

SA racing was dealt a blow earlier in the week with the news Tony McEvoy would be closing his Kildalton Park stable and Vorster, who has made the Barossa Valley home for the past three years, will hold off any decision regarding a potential interstate move until season’s end.

“Myself and Tony work together very well,’’ Vorster said on RadioTAB.

“He’s leaving it completely up to me as to what I want to do, go to Ballarat with him or stay here.

“He said he’s always going to support me. There is a lot to weigh up,’’ he said.

Vorster, who has ridden 53-1/2 winners this season and leads the Adelaide Rider’s Premiership, said he has been buoyed by the support from local trainers following the news.

“I’ve been overwhelmed from the support I’m getting,’’ Vorster said.

“The range of interest from trainers is really overwhelming.

“It’s nice to know there is going to be outside support,’’ he said.

Vorster said his immediate focus was securing good rides during the upcoming Adelaide Racing Carnival.

“There is a lot of water to go under the bridge, we’ve got the carnival coming up and I’m going to concentrate on that for now,’’ Vorster said.

“It’s going to be a big decision to make if we relocate again, I want to think carefully about the decision,’’ he said.
