Oaks win provides Glint Of Hope for Natalie Young

Glint Of Hope provided co-trainer Natalie Young with an emotional victory in the $502,250 Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville.

The leading trainer is currently battling breast cancer and couldn’t wait to celebrate the victory with her mother who made the trip to Adelaide to see the filly upstage her more fancied rivals.

“One in seven women get breast cancer, it’s not something we shouldn’t be talking about,’’ Young said.

“I think it’s important to keeping going, (and) going to the stable has got me through that tough time.

“My mum is here today, I haven’t seen her in four years,’’ she said.

Glint Of Hope was ridden perfectly by jockey Daniel Moor giving the leading rider his first feature success since cutting short his latest riding stint in Hong Kong earlier this month.

Moor never went around a horse on the Young and Trent Busuttin-trained filly who proved the superior stayer defeating Barb Raider and race favourite My Whisper who looked to have every chance in third place.

“Trent and Nat have been great supporters of mine,’’ Moor said.

“It’s really satisfying,’’ he said.

Moor said the race unfolded perfectly as he was able to track Jamie Kah on favourite My Whisper throughout before making a crucial decision on the home turn to save ground inside horses.

“I just wanted to follow Jamie everywhere,’’ Moor said.

“I knew she was (riding) the horse to drag us into the race.

“I had to make a decision (to stay on the rail) and pushed the button a little early but she did a big job,’’ he said.
