Will Clarken is confident Extremely Lucky has taken the steps required ahead of his Melbourne debut in the $175,000 Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Extremely Lucky stamped himself as a spring contender with his emphatic return to racing in the Listed Lightning Stakes in Adelaide where he unleashed a powerful finishing burst to run down rivals from the back of the field.
“He’s terrific,’’ Clarken said on RSN.
“He’s improved and has trained on perfectly.
“I’m looking forward to stepping him up in grade,’’ he said.
Despite his get back racing pattern, Clarken said the race shape of the Carlyon looked ideal for Extremely Lucky who will be ridden by Jamie Kah.
“Most of the field go forward,’’ Clarken said.
“You’d say they’ll go a good gallop, we’ll ride the horse to find the line and hopefully get over the top of them,’’ he said.
