David Jolly is cautious regarding Speak No Eagle’s first-up chances at Murray Bridge on Saturday.
The son of Alpine Eagle makes his long awaited return to the races more than a year after he had plenty talking following a brilliant debut win.
Jolly said Speak No Eagle had a second race preparation which was abandoned after the horse went sore.
“We gave him a second campaign and I wasn’t entirely happy with how he was going,’’ Jolly said.
“We pressed on, and he went shin sore, so we gave him a break and a bit more time.
“Being such a big horse we wanted to look after him,’’ he said.
Jolly said track conditions could play a part after trialling well at Balaklava at his first public outing before a second trial at Morphettville.
“I was really happy with his trial at Balaklava, but I didn’t think he handled a heavier track that well at Morphettville last time,’’ Jolly said.
“He’s a horse with a lot of talent, but he still has a lot to learn that’s for sure,’’ he said.
Speak No Eagle is battling for favouritism with the Tom Dabernig-trained Night Of Delight who was impressive winning a Swan Hill maiden last time out.
