Weekend wrap: Jollys continue to dominate, Sardelic claims Quorn Cup

Richard and Chantelle Jolly have started the new racing season in style.

The trainer partnership with celebrate their 2020-21 South Australian Metropolitan Trainers Premiership at this weekend’s Racing SA Industry Awards and have wasted no time in asserting their dominance on the new season.

From just 16 city runners they have already banked five winners after a treble at Murray Bridge on the weekend, the stable striking at an imposing 31.2 per cent runners to winners.

Talented three-year-old Kusu kick started their day, appreciating the bigger surrounds of the Gifford Hill circuit to easily account for rivals in the opening race and win by four lengths.

The stable has identified Yuri Royale as a Balaklava Cup horse after his gritty win, his fifth win from just 15 starts and the middle leg of the treble before Impossible Action was successful a tick over 30 minutes later. All three were ridden by Jake Toeroek.

While the Jollys dominated, the most impressive win of the day came from lightly-race four-year-old Maracourt.

Having just his fifth start and first-up from a short break, Maracourt still did plenty wrong before weaving a passage to a smart win for veteran Mount Gambier horseman Michael O’Leary.

Dean Holland also had a big day with a riding double aboard Victorian pair Night Of Delight and Cheloon.

AND at Quorn on Saturday a successful week in the saddle continued for Kristo Sardelic, who spent six months out of the saddle, when he claimed the Quorn Cup aboard Fiable for Kylie McKerlie.

Alana Livesey took riding honours with a double.

TODD Pannell justified his trip to the state’s South East, as the leading jockey took riding honours with a double.

Pannell scored aboard the Shayne Cahill-trained Tony Montana before combining with Cartier Tiara for the Grant Kluske stable late in the day.
