Stubby Secures Third John Letts Medal

JASON Holder capped a magnificent season in the saddle securing a third John Letts Medal at the 2022-23 South Australian Racing Industry Awards at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Saturday night.

The veteran jockey started the season steadily before making his move at the start of the new year, his highly successful carnival at Morphettville in May which included a stunning five winners on Derby Day, helping secure the award.

Holder polled 46 votes ahead of Lachlan Neindorf on 41, while rising star Alana Livesey’s breakout season in the saddle saw her finish on third with 37 votes.

And it was fitting that Another Award, the horse Holder partnered in two narrow defeats in both the Group 1 Sangster Stakes and Group 1 Goodwood, as well as a Listed victory in the Matrice Stakes claimed the title as the Festival Hire 2022-23 South Australian Racehorse of the Year Award.

The Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable claimed a second successive C S Hayes Award for the most wins across all races in SA this season and the Metropolitan Trainer of the Year Award for a second year running, while stable rider Jake Toeroek’s outstanding season was rewarded with the Glennon-Johnson Award as the 2022-23 Metropolitan Jockey of the Year.

Kayla Crowther’s consistency in the saddle saw her claim the South Australian Jockey of the Year Award and Provincial and Country Jockey of the Year Award for a second successive year.

Lachlan Neindorf claimed the TAB Metropolitan Apprentice Jockey of the Year Award, Alana Livesey winning both the Leon Macdonald Award as the South Australian Apprentice of the Year and the Caitlin Forrest Award for the SA Provincial and Country Apprentice Jockey of the Year.

Garret Lynch claimed the TAB SA Provincial and Country Trainer of the Year Award, while the Gordon Richards and Damien Moyle-trained My Khalifa was the Evright.com Best Performed Horse.

The unsung heroes of the racing industry were again recognised with Tracy Cox claiming the Stablehand of the Year Award while Mount Gambier’s Libby Halliday was awarded this year’s Trackwork Rider of the Year Award.

The Murray Bridge Racing Club claimed the Most Outstanding Achievement Award by a Club while the President of the South Australian Jockey Association Eran Boyd was given the Award for the Most Outstanding Achievement by an Individual.
