How will the barriers affect the G1 Goodwood?

West Australian three-year-old Oscar’s Fortune has been the horse to firm with bookmakers following the barrier draw for Saturday’s $1m Group 1 Goodwood at Morphettville.

The Dion Luciani-trained gelding comes off a third placing behind Overpass in the $5m Quokka at Ascot in Perth and has drawn a middle gate in barrier eight with William Pike making the trip to ride.

Fellow WA galloper Amelia’s Jewel is a firm $3.80 favourite for what we be her swansong under the care of Simon Miller before she joins the Annabel Neasham stable in Sydney.

Miller was upbeat following the draw with the mare to wear the blinkers for the first time in the 1200m feature.

“That’s perfect for her,’’ Miller said.

The Jason Warren-train Benedetta drew perfectly in barrier three with Jamie Kah to chase consecutive Adelaide Group 1 features after winning last week’s SA Derby, while the Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained Arkansaw Kid will have to overcome the extreme outside barrier drawn 17.

Interestingly, local galloper Sghirripa firmed from $26 into $19 after drawing wide in barrier 15 while I Am Me eased from $7.50 to $9 after drawing the inside for the Ciaron Maher stable chasing successive Goodwood victories.

Sangster Stakes winner Climbing Star will jump from barrier 13 and is marked a $21 chance in early markets while Tobin Bronze winner Skybird is a $9.50 chance after drawing perfectly in barrier five.

Jason Holder has picked up the ride on Karacasu for the Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable with their stable rider Jake Toeroek committing to fellow local Extremely Lucky who comes off a brilliant return following his win in the Hawkes Stakes
