Jake is back to retain his throne

Jake Toeroek can hit the ground running when he returns to race riding at Gawler on Saturday.

Last season’s leading rider currently holds a narrow two-win buffer over Todd Pannell in the Metropolitan Jockey Premiership and a six-win lead over Rochelle Milnes in the South Australian Jockey Premiership.

Toeroek hasn’t ridden at the races since early June having spent the past few weeks overseas on holiday and has a strong book of rides led by talented four-year-old Klabel who comes off a return to winning form at Murray Bridge last time out.

Toeroek said he tried his best to not look closely on what was happening back home in what is a tight premiership race.

“I wasn’t watching replays or anything like that, you try and switch off the best you can,’’ Toeroek said.

“I was more keeping on eye Todd’s (his nearest rival Todd Pannell) results,’’ he said.

Toeroek returns with five rides on the nine-race card, Klabel the shortest of the five marked a $2.60 favourite with Sportsbet, while Solar Blast is his longest priced ride in the last race of the day and currently a $5.50 equal favourite.

He also has Hard Prince $4, Pointless Praise $4.20 and Six Stars $5 all for the Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable.

“Klabel obviously looks well placed, you never know one these tracks this time of year, sometimes one can put their hand-up,’’ Toeroek added.
