Teagan Voorham booked for Rockhampton Cup

Teagan Voorham will make a surprise trip to Queensland to ride on Saturday.

Voorham has been booked to ride Hype in the $150,000 Rockhampton Cup (1600m) for Tasmanian trainer Aiden Nunn.

“I rode Polocrosse with Aiden in Tasmania and I got the text on Wednesday morning on the way to Mount Gambier asking if I was interested in the ride,’’ Voorham said.

“I had a couple of rides at Murray Bridge (on Saturday) but my manager was able to chat to the trainers and free me up so I can go up there and ride,’’ she said.

Hype, a former European import who spent time with Robert Hickmott and Kris Lees before going to the apple isle, has been campaigning in Queensland through the winter.

“I don’t know a lot about the horse but I’ll have a good chat to Anthony Darmanin (who has ridden the horse to success in Tasmania),’’ Voorham said.

Hype is drawn barrier 14 while Voorham has also been booked to ride Red Vicar and Hussy Empire earlier in the day.

“I’ll have to have a good look at the track having never ridden there before,’’ Voorham added.

“I’ve been booked for a couple of other rides earlier in the day which is nice,’’ she said.
