Group 1 Goodwood winning trainer Jason Warren makes a return to Adelaide on Saturday chasing a late season two-year-old feature.
Warren has accepted in the $150,000 Group 3 Sires’ Produce Stakes with Heinous, with last weekend’s Rockhampton Cup winning rider Teagan Voorham booked to ride.
“Teagan was an integral part to Benedetta’s success in Adelaide,’’ Warren said.
“Saturday’s race presented a nice opportunity for her to be riding this horse with the light weight and it would be a nice way to repay her for everything she did during the carnival,’’ he said.
Warren, who has trained five winners from his past nine runners, hasn’t been back to Adelaide since Benedetta’s Goodwood triumph at Morphettville in May and Heinous, like her star stablemate, has had a busy travelling schedule having campaigned in Queensland alongside the mare.
Heinous was a Sandown winner in May and caught the eye in her only Queensland outing making good ground behind Megastar Heart in the Listed Oxlade Plate at Eagle Farm over 1300m.
“I had her ready in what I thought was a very winnable Listed race on Tatts Tiara Day up there’’ Warren added.
“She had to come out, we got her home and identified this race for her.
“She’s in great order and trialled exceptionally well on Monday, hopefully she can hold a spot from the barrier and I am sure she’ll give the race a shake,’’ he said.
Jason Holder has been booked to ride Superlicious in the feature for the Leon and Troy Corstens stable, while Thomas Stockdale will ride in Adelaide on Saturday partnering Crime Of Passion for the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable.
Warren has also accepted in Adelaide with Gawnski, a horse who wasn’t beaten far in the Port Adelaide Guineas when last in Adelaide and Darceandermil with Caitlin Jones booked to ride while Todd Pannell will partner Stardealt.
