Tony and Calvin McEvoy’s exciting filly Arabian Summer headlines nominations for Saturday’s $120,000 Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville.
Arabian Summer has won three of her five starts and finished fifth behind Storm Boy in the $3m Magic Millions 2yo Classic on the Gold Coast in January.
She hasn’t raced since winning the $1m Magic Millions National 2yo Classic at Doomben in May.
With her regular rider Adelaide Cup winning jockey Harry Coffey sidelined through injury, Beau Mertens has been booked to ride the filly.
Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea have three nominations in the feature led by Group 1 Blue Diamond placegetter Kuroyanagi along with Desert Dancing and Hajra.
Clarken has a great record in the race having claimed consecutive Lightning features in 2021 and 2022 with Beau Rossa and Extremely Lucky.
Leading Victorian trainers Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman have four nominations Asmita, Kirribilli, Legacy Bay and Mighty.
Legacy Bay is the most interesting of the quartet, a Zoustar filly out of Jolie Bay and half-sister to God Of Thunder who topped the 2022 Inglis Australia Easter Yearling Sale when she was sold for $950,000.
