Andrew Clarken is chasing his first feature race victory since calling South Australia home when Magic Field tackles the $120,000 Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
Magic Field has won his past two starts, his latest and impressive 1.7 length win on the Parks with Rochelle Milnes in the saddle.
“I’ve had three seconds in Stakes races since coming to SA so it would be nice to go one better,’’ Clarken, who trains at Murray Bridge said.
Clarken said the Lightning presented the perfect opportunity to find out just where Magic Field is at.
“He deserves a crack in a race like this, the form around him seems to be stacking up quite well,’’ Clarken said.
“We had some offers from Hong Kong for him after his last win but that didn’t really go anywhere.
“Saturday will really be the ideal opportunity to see where he’s at,’’ he said.
Magic Field is by Deep Field out of Its Time For Magic, a mare who Clarken had experience with while working with champion trainer Chris Waller before she had four runs in SA under the care of his cousin Will Clarken before being retired to the breeding barn.
