Star international jockey Lyle Hewitson will ride in Adelaide on August 24.
Hewitson has been booked to ride Nicolini Vito for the Ben, Will and JD Hayes stable in the Listed Leon MacDonald Stakes (1400m).
A seven-time Group 1 winner, the South African jockey has ridden more than 1000 winners, including 950 at home, 120 in Hong Kong and 19 in Japan.
“He’s in Australia for a couple of weeks prior to commencing the new Hong Kong season,’’ jockey manager Nick Pinkerton, who is looking after his Australian rides, said.
“He’s a natural lightweight rider and is in Australia to build some connections and put his name in the hat for some potential quality Group 1 opportunities during the upcoming Spring Carnival.
“Although he’s only 26, Lyle has amassed nearly 1100 career wins, including a massive haul of 264 back home in South Africa during the 2020/21 season,’’ he said.
Hewitson’s first Australian winner came for dual-state horseman Phillip Stokes at Pakenham last week and can be booked for other rides through Pinkerton on 0400474414.
