Cahill's The Guava Looks For Third Win In Four Starts

In-form former Victorian galloper The Guava will chase a third win in four starts for the Cahill stable at Morphettville on Saturday.

Formerly in the care of Patrick Payne, The Guava returned to beat Jean Valjean first-up from a break at Murray Bridge before he dug deep to fight off Sir Kingsford last time giving Shayne and Chelsea Cahill their first official win as a training partnership.

Cahill said if there was more tempo in his second run back the horse could be undefeated this time around.

“He’s going good, he really has been racing well,’’ Shayne Cahill said.

“A bit more speed second-up and he probably could have won all three,’’ he said.

Cahill said a good barrier and some persistent Adelaide run would only enhance his chance at the weekend.

“He has a good gate and there looks to be good speed in the race and he can sit just off them,’’ Cahill said.

“Hopefully this rain today (Friday) continues and if he gets on a soft track he’s a serious chance again,’’ he said.

The Guava has two wins from his four starts on the Parks and will be ridden by three-time John Letts Medalist Jason Holder, with the 2023-24 winner to be announced at the Racing SA Awards at Morphettville on Saturday night.

Three horses ae in the running for the 2023-24 SA Horse of the Year – Air Assault, Queman and The Map.
