Talented mare Jilladora produced a big finishing burst to make a welcome return to winning form at Morphettville on the Parks on Saturday.
Settling at the back of the field Jilladora was given room at the top of the straight working into the clear before she powered over the top of rivals to score her first win since April.
“She has a stack of ability but things just need to go her way,’’ Collett said.
Trainer Justin Pickering said Jilladora had been a difficult horse to place due to her racing pattern but was confident she can measure-up over even further after ticking off the 1400m box on the weekend
“She’s been so frustrating,’’ Pickering said.
“Her racing pattern, she gets herself into awkward spots.
“Maggie pulled the right rein going to the outside and she let down really well,’’ he said.
Richard Jolly was also relieved to see smart four-year-old Deepfloat Diva back in the winner’s stall after a disappointing first-up run.
The horse created a big impression in his first campaign and should have all the attributes required to work his way through the classes according to the leading horseman.
“We wanted to see him do what he did, he’s a pretty smart horse,’’ Jolly said.
Andrew Gluyas took training honours with a double after Gumeracha Cracker broke his maiden early before Goldrush Guru made it two wins from two starts this time around.
The most popular South Australian win for the weekend may have come more than 1700 kilometers away when The Phill Stokes-trained Neodium made it back to back Birdsville Cup wins.
Ridden by Justin Potter, Neodium did it from start to finish and scored a four-length victory over his travelling companion Trumpsta trained by Stokes’ father Ron.
