In a true testament to our Racing SA strategic plan and the spirit of Racing Together, we are proud to announce a new collaboration with Country Racing SA, designed to ensure that Country Clubs across South Australia are celebrated for the crucial role they play in our industry.
This partnership has created six refined racing series’ that highlight and recognise the significance of Country Clubs in the racing community.
It starts this weekend in the $120,000 Listed Murray Bridge Gold Cup, in what will be officially the second leg of the Provincial Mile Series, which highlights the three major country clubs during the spring.
Jeff Tansell, Chair Country Racing SA said, ‘Country Racing South Australia in conjunction with Racing SA welcomes the introduction of a Provincial Mile Series for the 2024 Spring.’
The races included are the Listed Balaklava Cup (1600m), won by Air Assault, the Listed Murray Bridge Gold Cup (1600m) and the Gawler & Barossa Cup over 1500m later this month
“The Provincial Mile Series will compliment a group of several new race series and the rejuvenation of some existing series to highlight the Country Cups scene for the benefit of all industry participants,’’ Tansell said.
“These are designed to involve every SA country racing club and I urge everyone to become involved in these series, further promoting the regions of South Australia.’
The new series will cover each region across South Australia, providing every club with the opportunity to shine:

- Limestone Coast
- Mid North and Mallee
- Hills and Coast
- Provincial Mile

Points System
Points will be awarded for each race in the series as follows:
- First – 10 points
- Second – 5 points
- Third – 3 points
- Fourth – 2 points
- All other starters – 1 point
In the event of a dead heat, points will be divided. If any race in the series is cancelled or abandoned, all acceptors will receive 1 point, with scratchings, ballots, and emergencies not gaining a run excluded.
Bonus Prizemoney To further reward outstanding performance, bonus prizemoney will be distributed as follows totally $60,000 across the six series:
- Trainer – $6,000
- Jockey – $1,000
- Owner – $3,000
- Total – $10,000
This new series marks a fantastic collaboration between Racing SA and CRSA, providing every Country Club with a chance to be part of a celebrated series, showcasing the very best of regional racing.
