UBET Adelaide Cup Day Feature Race Previews

UBET Adelaide Cup Day is almost here and while the Cup will be the main focus, there are three more great feature races on the card including two Listed races.

Race 3 - Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic

The first of the feature races on Cup Day is the Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic. It’s often hard to get a solid form line with young Magic Millions horses but after just being pipped at the post last weekend in the Listed Cinderella Stakes last weekend, the Clint McDonald trained Spoils will be tough to beat and has been installed as a $2.10 favourite with UBET.

After a couple trials, it’s the first race start for the Lloyd Kennewell trained Bad Wolf, a colt from two-time Cox Plate winner So You Think. While the Phillip Stokes trained Éclair Sunshine who was a $290k purchase from the 2016 Gold Coast sales will be looking to get his first win after two second placings.

There have been some good winners come from this race in the past. The Lloyd Kennewell trained Deiheros, the $6.5k purchase, went on to win the Magic Millions Gold Coast Guineas the following year and amass $757k in prizemoney over his career. Toorak Toff is probably the most famous alumni of this race who went on to win the Group One Golden Rose and Group One Rupert Clark Stakes amassing $1.29 million over his career.

Spoils $2.10

Undoubtable Miss $4.20

Éclair Sunshine $9

Danger Deal $10

Backstreet Alley $11

Others $13+

Race 6 - Listed My Kitchen Rules Matrice Stakes

This is now the fourth year that the Listed Matrice Stakes has been run on Adelaide Cup Day and in the recent history it’s been one for the more fancied runners.

Riziz won the race in 2014 as the $2.80 favourite, while the last two editions were won by Runway Star whilst under the care of master trainer Peter Moody. Both times Runway Star ran second favourite and wore saddlecloth number eight.

Riziz is back this year, hoping to add another Matrice to his CV and is rated a $10 chance with UBET. The $2.50 favourite in the race is the Darren Weir trained Lyuba who is fresh off two seconds in Group 3 races in Tasmania. The ever consistent Casino Wizard will be the best local chance in the race and is second favourite in the market at $4.80

Lyuba $2.50

Casino Wizard $4.80

Heza Ripper $5

C’est Beau La Vie $8

Riziz $10

Others $13+

Race 8 - Listed Schweppes C S Hayes Memorial Cup

This year’s edition of the C S Hayes looks to be a magnificent race on paper with a couple of big names returning to the track. The Lloyd Williams owned Sir Isaac Newton is set to make his return to racing after running 7th in last year’s Caulfield Cup, while last year’s Adelaide Cup winner Purple Smile will step out for the first time in a year since his big win in the Cup.

The Darren Weir trained Burning Front is in some hot form and aiming for his fifth straight win, while local It And a Bit is aiming to chalk up his third win in a row for the Mick Huxtable yard.

The last five winners of the C S Hayes have all finished in the first four in their last start and there are eight runners in this year’s edition who are heading in with the same form line.

Interestingly, saddlecloth six has produced four of the last five winners which bodes well for the Chris Bieg trained, Excites Zelady who gets out to his pet distance of 1600m.

Burning Front is the clear favourite in the UBET Market at $2.10, while the Stuart Webb trained Great Esteem is second favourite at $5.

Burning Front $2.10

Great Esteem $5

Sir Isaac Newton $7

It And a Bit $12

Excites Zelady, Dr Dapper $13

Others $15+
