Savvy Placement from Across the Tasman

During last year’s Spring Carnival ‘Sydney form’ was all the rage but over this year’s Sydney Carnival, ‘New Zealand form’ was the only thing you wanted to be following.

Fresh off winning the Group 1 New Zealand Derby, Gingernuts took out the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas comfortably holding off Inference on a Heavy 10 at Rosehill.

A week later it was Jon Snow’s turn. He ran third behind Gingernuts in the NZ Derby and went on to win the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes and backed it up a week later winning the Group 1 Australian Derby on Day 1 of The Championships.

On the weekend just past, it was the fillies turn to continue the Trans-Tasman domination. Group 1 New Zealand Oaks winner Bonneval took out the Group 1 ATC Oaks on Day 2 of The Championships at Randwick with Hugh Bowman aboard.

Currently on-route from ‘across the ditch’ is Savvy Dreams; the Guy Lowry and Grant Cullen trained filly who ran third in the NZ Oaks behind Bonneval.

Savvy Dreams is expected to arrive in Adelaide on Thursday and will be stabled with Paul Beshara as she aims to tackle the Group 3 Auraria Stakes on route to the Group 1 Schweppes Australasian Oaks on May 6.

With the form that the 3yo New Zealand raiders are in, there is a good chance that Savvy Dreams will be the next horse to take another Group 1 back to New Zealand.
